Welcome to our church
Our church lies at the heart of the old village of Meavy, next to the village inn, and overlooking the village green. Our Grade 1 listed building has some Norman remains but is mainly from C15th. Our church parish covers the village of Meavy, part of Dousland, Yelverton, Clearbrook and the hamlet of Lovaton together with several outlying farms. We have a varied pattern of services and are open to new ideas. We have a good team of volunteers who keep things running smoothly, and a bellringing team for our 6 bells. We are proud of the strong links with our Church of England Primary School in the village who regularly visit the church for services.
St Peter’s lies at the heart of a vibrant community with a forward-looking congregation, which whilst proud to be part of the West Dartmoor Mission Community, is equally proud of our unique identity as the parish church serving our parish.
See either Around & About Magazine or the service rota for details of this month’s service
Portable ramps are now available to enable wheelchair access into the church building. For weddings, baptisms and funerals please contact the Clergy in advance if possible so that we may make arrangements to have the ramps ready for you. For usual Sunday services please speak to the church sidesperson (welcomer) on duty at the door and we will do our best to assist.

A personal story linking Meavy with a house of the same name in Sydney Australia
In 1908/09 my great uncle produced a 30 page book of sketches and commentary of Meavy and sent it to his brother in Australia who called his home Meavy. He produced a number of sketches of inside St Peter’s Church and a commentary about the history as he knew it and learned during his visit. In 2020 I researched the connection with the home here in Sydney ( I live in Sydney) and I have produced a book incorporating my uncles work that tells the story of the people and the connection with Meavy the village. To look at the book , please click here and then you will need to download it.
