We take it for granted as it is the backdrop for so much community life in Meavy: it adjoins the church, the pub, the green, the parish hall and now Meavy Oak is getting the recognition it deserves as it has been nominated as one of the top ten trees in England.
In September 2017 Bishop Julius of Thika Diocese, Kenya and Archdeacon James, his administrative secretary, visited Devon. James was immediately struck by our green landscape. “Look at all the trees”, he said to me as we drove along in the car. It is good that Meavy Oak is getting the recognition it deserves so please do visit the Woodland Trust website and make your vote for England’s Tree of the Year:
